Mértékegységi

Mértékegységi, also known as Hungarian unit of account, is a historical currency of Hungary that was in circulation from 1927 to 1946. It replaced the pengő and was itself replaced by the forint in 1946. The mértékegységi was subdivided into 100 fillér, and the exchange rate was fixed at 4.2 mértékegységi per US dollar.

The currency was introduced to combat hyperinflation that had plagued the Hungarian economy since the early 1920s. The mértékegységi was a fixed currency, meaning its value was pegged to the US dollar, which helped to stabilize the economy. However, the currency's stability was short-lived, as the Second World War and subsequent political instability led to its eventual replacement by the forint.
