Kufstein

Kufstein is a town in Tyrol, Austria, on the Inn River near the German border. It is the administrative center of the Kufstein District and one of the region’s larger towns.

It lies in the Inn Valley at the foot of the Kaiser Mountains, with good road and rail links. The Munich–Innsbruck corridor passes through Kufstein, making it a transportation hub for the region.

The town's most prominent landmark is Kufstein Fortress (Festung Kufstein), perched above the town. The fortress originated in the medieval period and has been expanded over centuries; today it houses a regional museum and is a major tourist attraction and cultural venue.

The historic old town around the market square features churches and traditional Tyrolean architecture. Tourism, small-scale industry, and services form the basis of the local economy; the fortress and annual cultural events drive visitor numbers.

Kufstein is the seat of the district and participates in regional cultural and educational networks; it is closely linked to nearby Bavarian towns by cross-border cooperation and tourism.
