Kernsprache

Kernsprache (core language) is a term used in linguistics to denote the central or dominant language variety in a multilingual setting. It is often the standard or official language that carries formal domains such as education, government, media, and written communication. The Kernsprache can coexist with regional dialects and minority languages that are used in informal contexts, at home, or within local communities.
