KRO

KRO, short for Katholieke Radio Omroep, is a Dutch public broadcasting association that has historically served Catholics in the Netherlands. As part of the Nederlandse Publieke Omroep (NPO) system, KRO contributed radio and television programming to a broad audience while maintaining a heritage rooted in Catholic Christian values.

Founded in the mid-20th century as one of several religiously affiliated broadcasters, KRO produced a range of content including news, culture, education, and religious programming. Over time, its programming broadened to appeal to a wider audience while continuing to reflect its Christian identity.

In 2014, KRO merged with the NCRV (Nederlandse Christelijke Radio Vereniging) to form KRO-NCRV, a combined broadcaster within the NPO. The merger aimed to consolidate resources and maintain public service obligations while preserving the organization’s distinctive heritage. Since then, KRO-NCRV has continued producing programs across radio, television, and online platforms.

Today, KRO-NCRV operates as one of the public broadcasters within the Dutch system, contributing to news, culture, entertainment, and religious programming, and collaborating with other entities in the NPO network to deliver content to Dutch audiences.
