ISSF

The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) is the international governing body for the Olympic shooting sports. It standardizes competition rules, maintains equipment and safety standards, oversees judging, and coordinates anti-doping policies. The ISSF also promotes the sport at the global level and provides support to national federations.

Disciplines governed by the ISSF include rifle, pistol, and shotgun events contested by able-bodied athletes. Olympic disciplines typically include 10 metre air rifle and 10 metre air pistol, 25 metre pistol, 25 metre rapid-fire pistol, and 50 metre rifle three positions; shotgun events such as trap and skeet are also under ISSF oversight. It maintains world rankings for shooters and provides accreditation and training for judges and coaches. It also works with national federations to develop youth programs and expand participation.

History and structure: The ISSF traces its origins to the early 20th century, evolving from earlier federations and adopting its current name in the late 1990s. It is recognized by the International Olympic Committee and coordinates with national shooting bodies to administer the sport globally. The federation operates through a Congress, an elected Council, and various commissions that oversee technical, competition, and development matters.
