Hornregion

Hornregion is a geographic region on the eastern coast of the fictional continent of Aridia. It is named for a long horn-shaped peninsula that extends into the sea, forming natural harbors and sheltered bays. The region includes coastal lowlands, forested hills, and a central highland plateau.

The horn peninsula stretches about 140 kilometers from its base to its tip, curving to create several prominent bays. Two major rivers, the Lyr and the Aeth, descend from the highlands and nourish fertile valleys inland. The climate ranges from humid subtropical along the coast to temperate in the interior, with distinct wet and dry seasons. Protected coves support fishing fleets and harbor towns, while the inland Saddleback range provides forest cover and drainage divides.

Evidence of settlement in Hornregion dates to the late Bronze Age, with later development of port towns and inland trade routes. In the medieval era it was a crossroads for maritime and overland traffic. In the modern period, the region formed a semi-autonomous entity within the Aridian Confederation, adopting its own regional government and budget.

The population is around 2.8 million, concentrated in coastal cities such as Port Vela, Crestford, and Norhaven.

The economy combines fishing, agriculture, light manufacturing, and tourism. Key cultural features include coastal cuisine, markets at the harbor towns, and seasonal festivals reflecting maritime heritage. Protected natural areas and the horn-shaped landscape are central to ecotourism and local identity.
