Glasreiniger

Glasreiniger is a cleaning product designed to remove dirt, grease and fingerprints from glass and transparent surfaces such as windows, mirrors and glass countertops. Most formulations are water-based and contain organic solvents (often alcohols like isopropanol or ethanol), surfactants to lower surface tension, and sometimes ammonia or ammonium hydroxide to improve grease removal. Some products are ammonia-free and marketed as milder or more suitable for sensitive surfaces. Fragrances or dyes may also be added.

Variants and usage guidance

Glasreiniger is available in spray bottles for convenient application. Ammonia-containing versions generally clean more effectively on greasy films but can emit strong odors and may damage certain plastics or coatings. Ammonia-free formulations are often preferred for plastic surfaces, coated glasses or electronics. For delicate surfaces such as touchscreen displays, LCD panels or coated mirrors, it is advisable to use a product specifically labeled for electronics or to apply the cleaner to a microfiber cloth rather than directly onto the surface.

Application tips

Apply the cleaner to a lint-free cloth or lightly spray on the surface from a short distance, then wipe with a circular motion until the surface is dry and free of streaks. Use a clean, dry cloth to finish and prevent lint residues. Avoid cleaning hot surfaces or windows exposed to strong sunlight, and do not mix glass cleaner with bleach or other household chemicals.

Safety and environmental aspects

Most glasreiniger products are flammable due to their alcohol content and should be kept away from heat sources. They should be stored out of reach of children and used in well-ventilated areas. Dispose of empty containers according to local recycling regulations. Some products may irritate skin or eyes; gloves and eye protection are advisable for frequent use.
