Geofysici

Geofysici, or geophysicists, are scientists who study the physical properties of the Earth and other planetary bodies by applying physics-based methods. They investigate the interior structure of planets, gravity and magnetic fields, seismic waves, heat flow, and surface and near-surface processes. Their work supports natural resource exploration, environmental assessment, hazard mitigation, and scientific understanding of Earth systems.

Common subfields include seismology, geomagnetism, gravity and gravimetry, electrical and electromagnetic methods, radar and imaging techniques such as seismic reflection and refraction, electrical resistivity tomography, ground-penetrating radar, magnetic surveys, and remote sensing. They use mathematical modeling, numerical simulations, and data analysis of large datasets.

Education typically requires a bachelor's degree in geophysics, geology, physics, or engineering; many positions require master's or PhD. Work settings include universities, government agencies, research institutes, energy and mineral industries, environmental consulting, mining, and infrastructure companies. Tools commonly used include seismographs, gravimeters, magnetometers, borehole logging tools, airborne and satellite sensors, and specialized software for modeling and inversion.

Geophysics also extends to planetary science, with researchers studying the Moon, Mars, and other bodies using spacecraft data to infer internal structure, tectonics, and evolution. The field is interdisciplinary, collaborating with geology, engineering, environmental science, and data science.
