Gehelens

Gehelens is a town and civil parish in the fictional nation of Eryndor, situated in the eastern lowlands along the Gehel River. The surrounding landscape is a patchwork of arable fields, pastures, and small woodlands. The parish covers several hamlets and has a population in the mid‑2,000s.

Gehelens traces its origins to the medieval period, with the parish church of St. Alder dating to the 14th century. The arrival of the railway in the late 19th century spurred growth, and textile production and grain milling formed the core of the local economy into the early 20th century. Following industrial restructuring, the town diversified into farming services and light manufacturing.

The town sits at about 60 meters above sea level, with fertile loams and a temperate maritime climate. Average annual rainfall is around 700 millimeters, with relatively mild summers and cool winters.

Gehelens is governed by a town council elected every four years and is part of the Eryndor District. The local economy centers on agriculture, small-scale manufacturing, logistics, and retail serving the surrounding rural area. Public services include a primary school, a health clinic, and a library.

Notable sites include the ruins of Gehelens Abbey, a riverside walk along the Gehel, and a preserved mill leat. The town hosts an annual harvest festival in autumn.
