Ethicallegal (sometimes written to emphasize the combined domain of ethics and law) is a conceptual field at the intersection of normative ethical analysis and legal compliance. It focuses on how morally informed considerations relate to, and are operationalized within, statutory, regulatory, and contractual frameworks. The term is used in discussions of governance, corporate responsibility, and policy to describe decisions that are both ethically justifiable and legally sound.

In practice, ethicallegal concerns arise in business, technology, healthcare, and public policy. Examples include designing privacy protections that satisfy data protection law while upholding user autonomy; evaluating AI systems for bias, safety, and accountability in line with regulatory requirements; ensuring informed consent in medical research and treatment; and environmental or procurement policies that align regulatory compliance with fairness and public interest.

Challenges include legitimate tensions where law lags behind ethics or imposes constraints that seem ethically limiting, or where ethical norms exceed what is legally required. Proponents advocate integrated governance that combines legal due diligence with ethical risk assessment, stakeholder engagement, and transparency. Tools include ethics review boards, impact assessments, compliance programs, and codes of conduct.
