DexronMercon is a term used in the automotive lubricant market to describe automatic transmission fluids (ATFs) that are formulated to meet both Dexron and Mercon performance standards, or to be compatible with transmissions that require either specification. Dexron is GM’s family of ATF specifications, introduced in the 1960s, while Mercon is Ford’s line of specifications developed for its transmissions. Over the years, both manufacturers have issued multiple generations of their fluids, such as Dexron II/III and Dexron VI, and Mercon/V with subsequent revisions, leading to a landscape of evolving requirements for transmission performance.
