Geographically, Budunostan lies on a hypothetical continent called Meridion, with plains along the Azure Sea and highland plateaus inland. The climate ranges from temperate to alpine, and the coast includes several natural harbors and a major port.

Historically, it emerged as a modern state in the early 20th century after independence from a colonial federation. The current constitution, adopted in 1967, established a parliamentary republic with a ceremonial president and a prime minister who heads government.
