Behartee

Behartee is a fictional town and administrative entity used in geographic and cultural world-building. It is located in the imagined country of Veridia, in the Veridian highlands along the Behar River, and serves as the capital of Behar County, a regional hub for agriculture, crafts, and ecotourism.

The name Behartee is usually traced to Veridian elements behar, valley, and tee, spring; however, local lore offers other origins. Etymology is a subject of informal debate among residents and scholars.

Behartee lies in a highland basin at about 900 meters above sea level, with rolling forests and terraced fields. The climate is temperate, with cool winters, warm summers, and about 700 millimeters of annual rainfall.

Founded around 1719 by upland settlers, Behartee grew as a market town and gained municipal rights in 1867. A late-19th century rail line and roads linked it to larger cities, fostering steady growth alongside conservation.

As of recent estimates, Behartee has about 7,100 residents. The population is diverse within the Veridian sphere, with Veridian as the dominant language and local dialects spoken in rural areas.

The economy centers on agriculture—fruit orchards, grains, and dairy—plus small manufacturing and crafts such as pottery and weaving. Ecotourism and heritage tourism draw visitors to the Behar Reserve and historic districts.

Behartee hosts annual events including a spring festival and a winter crafts market. Public amenities include a library, a regional high school, and a small museum of local history and folk art.

Transportation relies on a regional road network and a seasonal rail line; a small airstrip serves private and charter flights.
